National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS)
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS), being held tomorrow,(Wednesday) is a wonderful annual event that celebrates the importance of reading, language, and literacy in early childhood. It brings together children, educators, families, and communities across Australia to share the same story at the same time, highlighting the power of storytelling in fostering connection, imagination, and a love of books. Events like NSS remind us that literacy begins in the early years through meaningful interactions, shared experiences, and engaging group times that support children’s communication and learning.
Sadly though across many ECEC services, there is a noticeable decline in educators’ confidence and skills when facilitating engaging group times, with a growing reliance on iPads and technology to hold children’s attention. While technology can support learning, it should not replace the impact of a passionate educator, a quality children’s book, expressive tone of voice, songs, puppets, and simple props that truly bring stories to life. Returning to these “back to basics” approaches helps create meaningful literacy experiences that encourage imagination, strengthen language development, and foster genuine engagement in children.
At Elevate Success, we can help guide and support educators in creating meaningful and engaging group times that bring the fun back into learning. Through practical strategies, creative ideas, and hands-on support, we empower educators to build confidence in delivering rich language and literacy experiences.
